10 Watt LED Driver Circuit

Introduction:

This project is a 10-Watt LED Driver Circuit, designed to operate a damaged LED bulb. You can use this circuit to create a study lamp or for other purposes. The project employs an AC to DC rectifier circuit, eliminating the need for a transformer. It uses the principle of a transformer-less power supply and is cost-effective, with a total cost of less than ₹120.

Circuit Connection:

The circuit is built using a diode bridge rectifier. Here's a step-by-step guide to the connections:

  1. Diode Bridge Rectifier:

    • The diode bridge has two input pins for 220V AC and two output pins for DC (to power the LED).
    • Connect the 220V AC phase input to the diode bridge through a 105j/400V capacitor.
    • A 1MΩ 2W resistor is connected in parallel with the 105j/400V capacitor.
  2. Neutral Connection:

    • Connect the neutral input of the diode bridge to a 10Ω 2W resistor in series.
  3. DC Output Smoothing:

    • Connect a 220μF/63V capacitor in parallel with the DC output of the diode bridge.
  4. LED Connection:

    • Connect the positive DC output from the diode bridge through a 10Ω 2W resistor to the positive terminal of the 10W LED.
    • Connect the negative terminal of the LED to the negative DC output of the diode bridge.

With these connections, the circuit assembly is complete.

Working:

The working of the circuit is as follows:

  1. AC to DC Conversion:

    • The diode bridge rectifier converts the incoming 220V AC voltage to DC voltage.
  2. Voltage Reduction and Stabilization:

    • The 105j capacitor reduces the AC input voltage.
    • The 1MΩ resistor stabilizes the capacitor's voltage, keeping it constant.
    • The DC output from the diode bridge is smoothed by the 220μF capacitor.
  3. Voltage Regulation:

    • The 10Ω resistor regulates the voltage supplied to the 10W LED, ensuring proper operation without overloading.
  4. LED Illumination:

    • When 220V AC is applied, the circuit drives the 10W LED, making it illuminate brightly.

Circuit Diagram:

A schematic diagram will help visualize the connections. Ensure to follow the diagram accurately to avoid any errors.

Note:

Warning: This circuit is a shock hazard. Do not touch any lines while the circuit is powered. Ensure all connections are insulated and handle with care.
